Hal Weiner and Wife
Last spring Katrina’s Dolphins, an original screenplay by filmmaker Hal Weiner, won the 30th Annual Larry Neal Writers’ Competition. The script is based on the true story of eight dolphins, from a marine amusement park, that were washed into the Gulf of Mexico during Hurricane Katrina and their survival and rescue. Through their production company, Screenscope, Weiner and his wife have also produced, written, and directed over 225 documentaries.

Bert N. Mitchell (MBA ’68, LLD [Hon.] ’88) received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at the 117th Adelphi University Commencement ceremony in May. He is the founder and chairman emeritus of Mitchell & Titus, the nation’s largest minority-controlled CPA firm.

Harvey Kamil (MBA ’68) is vice chairman of NBTY, the nutritional supplement manufacturer and distributor; he joined the company in 1982 as executive VP/CFO and became president in 2002.

Joseph Macnow has been appointed chief administrative officer at Vornado Realty Trust, where he will continue his role as executive VP-finance.

Baruch College Fund trustee Max W. Berger, senior founding partner of New York–based Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossman, was named one of “The 100 Most Influential lawyers in America” by the National Law Journal. In April an exhibit of his photography ran at 25CPW Gallery in Manhattan. After 40 years as a media and market research professional in the N.Y.C. magazine publishing world, Allan Kalish now works with his wife, Judy, selling real estate on Long Island. His son David and daughter Lauren are currently working in Baruch’s STARR Career Development Center and the Office of Communications, Marketing & Public Affairs, respectively. Lawrence S. Sykoff has joined Graham-Pelton Consulting, Inc.’s Private Client Group as senior counsel. For the previous 20 years he served as head of Ranney School in Tinton Falls, N.J., and was recently named headmaster emeritus.
